Accenture has finalized a $1.2 billion cash acquisition of Ookla from Ziff Davis, bringing tools like Speedtest and Downdetector under its corporate umbrella. The IT services giant intends to merge Ookla’s data products into its existing offerings, targeting communications service providers, hyperscalers, government agencies, and other clients. According to Accenture’s announcement, this integration will focus on optimizing critical Wi-Fi and 5G networks to meet growing demands for low-latency connectivity.
Ookla’s portfolio extends beyond its well-known consumer-facing services. The platform includes Ekahau, which provides wireless network troubleshooting and design tools, and RootMetrics, a mobile network performance monitoring system. These assets will bolster Accenture’s capabilities in network management and digital transformation initiatives.
Accenture plans to leverage data from Ookla’s services for multiple applications. Key use cases involve assisting hyperscalers and cloud providers in ensuring the resilience of AI infrastructure and edge data centers, which handle the majority of inference workloads. Additional applications include enhancing fraud prevention in banking, conducting smart home analytics for utilities, and optimizing retail traffic flows.
In a statement, Accenture’s chief strategy and services officer, Manish Sharma, highlighted the strategic value of the acquisition. “Speedtest and RootMetrics define the experience; Downdetector identifies incidents faster; and Ekahau drives digital workplace transformation through superior Wi-Fi,” Sharma said. He emphasized that in an era of omni-channel and agentic access, low-latency, zero-friction connectivity has become a competitive necessity, and these tools empower enterprises to build high-performance environments.
Ookla reports that its products facilitate approximately 250 million consumer-initiated tests each month. The company employs around 430 people and achieved a net income of $76.1 million on revenue of $230.7 million in 2025. This financial performance underscores the scale and impact of its data-driven services in the network performance market.
