Netflix Implements Tier-Wide Price Increases, Citing Content and Feature Investments

Netflix has announced price increases for every subscription tier, with hikes reaching up to 12.5 percent. The ad-supported plan now costs $9 per month, up from $8. The Standard ad-free plan has risen from $18 to $20 monthly, while the Premium ad-free plan increased from $25 to $27. This Premium tier supports viewing from four devices simultaneously, offers 4K resolution, and includes spatial audio.

For context, Disney+ starts at $12 per month with commercials and $19 without ads. Netflix’s last price adjustment occurred in January 2025, when subscribers faced increases of up to 16 percent. Prior to that, the most recent hike was in 2023.

Netflix explained to TechCrunch that the new pricing reflects improvements to its “wide range of entertainment” and overall service. Streaming services commonly cite the need to fund content and introduce new features as reasons for raising prices.

Since the previous price increase, Netflix has added HDR10+ support and introduced a new subtitle format that only transcribes spoken dialogue. The company has also revamped its TV app and announced plans for an updated mobile app, streaming traditional broadcast channels, and displaying AI-generated advertisements.
